From Sigma Farm to Rustenburg High: Dihano’s Inspiring Story

Dihano van Rooi’s journey from Sigma Farm to Rustenburg High School is a testament to the power of determination, community support, and unwavering perseverance. Born and raised on Sigma Farm, nestled in the heart of South Africa near the quaint town of Trawal, Dihano’s childhood was marked by the warmth of community and the spirit of camaraderie.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Dihano fondly recalls the tight-knit community of Sigma Farm. “Growing up on Sigma Farm, my childhood memories are filled with people being friendly and considerate,” he shares.

At a young age, Dihano found himself drawn to the game of rugby, inspired by the spirited matches of the Trawalians, the community’s local rugby team. He eagerly took on the role of waterboy, watching in awe as the players played on Saturdays on the field. “I always loved rugby, even when I was just a little boy watching the Trawalians play,” he recalls.

Despite his passion for rugby, Dihano’s path to the sport was not without its challenges. As a shy and reserved child, he hesitated to participate in organized sports during his primary school years. It wasn’t until grade 7 that he mustered the courage to join Klawer Primary’s rugby team, taking his first steps onto the field.

Dihano’s life took a pivotal turn when he caught the eye of Mr. Naas Olivier, the rugby coach at Rustenburg High School. Recognizing Dihano’s raw talent and potential, Mr. Olivier offered him a study bursary, providing him with the opportunity to pursue his passion for rugby while furthering his education at the school. “I couldn’t believe it when Mr. Olivier called my mom with the news that I was chosen for the bursary. It was like a dream come true—I knew this was my chance to make something of myself,” Dihano expresses.

Supported by Bet-El Fruits, Dihano’s dreams became a reality. Bet-El Fruits helped Dihano and his mother by sponsoring him with the necessary sports gear and school stationery to go to Rustenburg. With the financial relief and burden lifted from his mother, he could focus on his studies and athletic pursuits. “I am so thankful to Bet-El Fruits for believing in Dihano and helping him pursue his dreams. It’s been a journey filled with challenges, but seeing him thrive at Rustenburg High fills me with pride,” shares his mother.

Dihano’s mother reflects on the challenges they faced together and the impact of Bet-El Fruits’ sponsorship. “Dihano was very excited to go. But I knew it would be a great challenge for both of us. I miss him terribly. We now always make sure to catch up in the mornings and evenings over the phone. I was worried about sending him, but he made me so proud!”

Looking ahead, Dihano remains committed to his pursuit of excellence, both academically and athletically. “Academically I would like to learn harder,” he shares, echoing his mother’s sentiments about the value of perseverance. “My mom always says, ‘Perseverance pays off!’ I will never forget that lesson. If I don’t get things right or accomplish it today, I will try again tomorrow.” On the sports field, Dihano’s commitment to giving his best shines through. “I always give my best. I enjoy playing. Teamwork is the key to success on the field,” he emphasizes.

Dihano’s mother, reflecting on her son’s journey and her hopes for his future, shares, “I just always want him to follow his dreams! As his mother, I will always be there to help and support him with everything he wishes to achieve. If your dreams don’t scare you – they’re not big enough! Dihano – dream big my boy!”

As we celebrate Dihano’s remarkable journey from Sigma Farm to Rustenburg High School, we eagerly anticipate the next chapter in his extraordinary story. Bet-El Fruits and Sigma Farm is proud of you Dihano!
